While many of your known persons around you (even some representatives) will advice you that you don’t need to show proof of fund for your study permit extension or just showing a lump sum amount is fine for the study permit extension, I respectfully disagree. Yes, they give you such advice because they have had success sometimes in the past. That’s their evidence in support of their advice.
I have more solid evidence against this thought process because my evidence is directly from the IRCC website where it indicates that you will be needing the proof of fund for the remaining period of your study.
Let’s through some excerpts of the guide below:
Guide 5552 - Applying to Change Conditions or Extend Your Stay in Canada - Student - online application. (Ref: IRCC’s official website)
In the guide above they have mentioned updating (on January 30, 2024) the study permit extension application form IMM5709.
In IMM5709, they clearly asked for the fund as below:
If you hard time understanding the fields above, please read the step-by-step instructions on how to complete the form as below:
For now, I am bringing up the excerpt related to the proof of fund only.
I think the above evidence are more than sufficient to make you believe that it’s not just a lump sum amount or little amount which you have in your possession, rather they are asking for the amount you have for your remaining period of study (for tuition, room and board, other)
