Ontario, being the second largest province in Canada, is one of the most sought after province by the immigrants as well. The reason being that Ontario provides several job and growth opportunities along with a great infrastructure.
The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) is an important part of the immigration plan for the province to attract international graduates, skilled workers, and various entrepreneurs to meet the province’s skill shortage needs. To simplify, OINP streams are broadly categorized into three main groups – Human Capital Stream, Employer Job Offer and Graduate with their sub-groups listed below them:
1) Human Capital Stream: This aims to target the foreign skilled workers with relevant education and work experience. The candidates may not be able to apply directly to this stream. Candidates must have a valid profile in the Express Entry (EE) pool, must receive a Notification of Interest (NOI) from the OINP based on their profile.
i) Human Capital Priorities Stream: This stream aims to target highly skilled workers under the Express Entry pool. This stream is primarily for applicants having the relevant education, work experience and the language proficiency required for Ontario’s labor market.
ii) French speaking skilled worker stream: This stream aims at candidates in the federal Express Entry pool with both French and English ability.
iii) Skilled trade stream: This stream aims at skilled trade workers with work experience in eligible trade occupations. The advantage here is that the candidate does not require an Express Entry profile.
2) Employer Job Offer: This stream aims at candidates who have an existing job offer from an employer in Ontario.
i) International Student: This stream aims at recent graduates from an eligible study program in Canada. It requires the candidates to have a job offer for a skilled position. The successful applicants receive a provincial nomination from Ontario.
ii) Foreign Worker: This stream aims at individuals with a qualifying job offer from an Ontario employer.
iii) In-demand skills: This stream is for applicants who are foreign workers in an ‘in-demand’ occupation in certain specific sectors. For instance, trucking, personal support work, construction, etc.
iv) Regional Economic Development Through Immigration (REDI) pilot: As the name suggests, the pilot program will run through January 02, 2025 to December 31, 2025. It aims at supporting the economic growth in regional communities attracting foreign skilled workers who intend to live and work beyond the urban centers.
33) Graduate: This stream targets international students who have studied from an eligible study program and institute in Canada.
i) Masters Graduate: As the name suggests, this stream is for individuals who have a Masters degree from a university in Ontario, and intend to live in Ontario as Permanent Residents.
ii) Ph.D Graduate: This stream is for applicants having a Doctoral degree from a university in Ontario, and intend to live in Ontario as Permanent Residents.
