An Invitation letter is an important element while applying for a visa for Canada. The visa officers assess an applicant in deciding whether they meet the terms of Canada’s immigration law. The invitation letter is written by the person/organization inviting an applicant to Canada. The purpose of visit can vary in terms of visiting, attending an event/function, etc.
In terms of a Visitor Visa application, the invitation letter is critical as it provides an opportunity to the applicant and the host (in Canada) to explain the purpose of the visit and the relationship. Providing an invitation letter does not put the host in a legally binding/responsible position. However, the letter must still be written in good faith with all the information being provided to be true and correct.
A complete and efficient invitation letter should ideally consist of the below:
- -Details of both the applicant and the host. This includes the complete name, date of birth, contact and residential details.
- - Purpose and duration of the trip: The letter must state the purpose of the trip – tourism, business, attending a family function, etc. It must also state for how long the applicant intends to stay in Canada.
- - Relationship: It must clearly identify the relationship between the host and the applicant.
- - Legal status of the host: The host should provide evidence of their legal status in Canada, along with evidence of their financial ability.
- - Ability to support: The letter must mention whether the applicant is being sponsored by themselves, or if the host will be financially responsible for the trip.
- For a Supervisa, the letter must include:
o A promise of financial support for the duration of the applicant’s visit
o The list and the number of people included in the family size calculation.
