What Are the Different Streams Available Under the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP)?

The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) is a strategic initiative by the Government of Alberta to attract and retain immigrants who can contribute to the province’s workforce and economic development. Formerly known as the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP), the AAIP includes multiple immigration streams to support skilled workers, entrepreneurs, international graduates, and rural communities.

If you're exploring your options to settle permanently in Alberta, here’s a breakdown of the streams available under the AAIP:

1. Alberta Opportunity Stream (AOS)

This stream is for foreign nationals already living and working in Alberta on a valid work permit. It requires:

  • A full-time job offer from an eligible Alberta employer.
  • Work experience in the same occupation.
  • Minimum language and education requirements.

2. Alberta Express Entry Stream

This stream is aligned with the federal Express Entry system. Alberta selects candidates from the federal Express Entry pool who:

  • Have strong ties to Alberta.
  • Are working in an in-demand occupation.
  • Have a high Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score or show the potential to contribute to Alberta’s economy.

3. Rural Renewal Stream

This stream is designed for candidates with a valid job offer from an employer in a participating rural Alberta community. Communities play a key role in endorsing candidates before nomination.

4. Rural Entrepreneur Stream

Targeted at entrepreneurs who wish to start or purchase a business in rural Alberta. Candidates must demonstrate:

  • A minimum net worth and investment.
  • Business management experience.
  • An exploratory visit to the rural community.

5. Graduate Entrepreneur Stream

For international graduates from Alberta post-secondary institutions who want to start or operate a business in the province. Key requirements include:

  • Completing a minimum two-year program.
  • Operating the business for at least 12 months before nomination.

6. Foreign Graduate Entrepreneur Stream

For graduates from outside Canada with a foreign degree and a viable business plan to launch a business in Alberta. This stream requires:

  • Endorsement from an approved designated agency.
  • Minimum investment and ownership criteria.

7. Farm Stream

For experienced farmers with the financial resources to purchase or establish a farming business in Alberta’s agricultural sector.

The Black Bear Canadian Immigration Consulting is here to help you identify the stream best suited to your background and goals. Whether you’re a skilled worker, student, or entrepreneur, our expert consultants will guide you through the AAIP process—step by step.
