Q: How can we keep the permanent Resident Status active?

A: at keep your permanent resident status, you must have been in Canada for at least 730 days during the last five years. These 730 days don’t need to be continuous. And some of your time abroad may count towards the 730 days.

Q: Can we apply for PR Card renewal while being Outside Canada?

A: PR Card renewal can only be applied while in Canada and cannot be applied from Outside Canada

Q: How can we enter Canada if the PR card is expired?

A: Permanent resident travel document (PRTD)is required to enter.

a.       If you are out of Canada and your PR card expires then you must apply for PRTD (Permanent resident travel document) to enter Canada

b.       If you leave Canada without a valid PR card, you must apply for a PRTD to re-enter Canada.

Q: Can I travel from US by road in private Vehicles?

A: Yes, you’ll need PR Card or PRTD to return to Canada by plane, train, bus or boat.

Some examples of private vehicles include, but are not limited to a car, truck, motorcycle, or recreational vehicle that you own, borrow, or rent. It is a vehicle not available for public use.

Q: What other documents are required to establish Identity if returning to Canada by a private vehicle if not having Valid PR card or PRTD?

A: Below are some examples of the documents you may use to establish your identity at the port of entry when entering Canada in a private vehicle:

                         i. Enhanced driver's license issued by a Canadian province or territory.

                       ii.  Enhanced identification/photo card issued by a Canadian province or territory.

                      iii. Provincial and territorial driver's license

                      iv. Employment or student card with photo and signature

                       v.  Provincial health insurance card

                      vi. Provincial identity card

                    vii. Police identification

                  viii.  Firearms acquisition certificate

                      ix.  Credit card

                        x. Vehicle insurance certificate

                      xi.  Vehicle registration

Q: Can I get my PR Card Delivered to Non Canadian Address?

A: No, PR cards are not sent to non-Canadian addresses and IRCC does not allow third parties to get them for you.
