While sponsoring a family member, One of criteria for eligibitly is that “Sponsor is not receiving social assistance for reasons other than a disability”.

And while assessing and discussing the information of prospective clients, I come across one question that is being frequently asked by clients. The question is “What counts as Social assistance and what not”.

It is very critical to have all the information if sponsor is receiving any type of assistance from federal or provincial government and have the classification done carefully and diligently. This can be a decisive factor whether sponsor is eligible to Sponsor a family member or not.
