Remember when IRCC announced that they plan to remove job offer points (200 points for TEER 0 positions and 50 points for TEER 1, 2, or 3 positions) from Express Entry?

Well it's officially spring , and we saw a glimpse of changes that hint to the implementation of this plan soon (or even more).

If you check the CRS calculator, it no longer gives additional points for LMIA-backed job offers. It is also notable that they seem to have increased the additional points for French from 50 to 100.

See screenshots from an old CRS calculation and one that was done today:

Take note that no official announcement has been made, and these are all speculations based on the changes in the CRS calculator website.

What does this mean for Express Entry applicants?

It is possible that draw cutoff scores would come lower. LMIA selling and fake job offers would be a thing of the past. Applicants with genuine credentials could possibly have a fighting chance to compete in the pool now.

However, when one opportunity closes, another one opens.

There was a time (or still even now) when IELTS exam scores were sold to the highest bidders. I have heard wispers of the same happening with TEF and TCF now that French has become a priority category.

While the aim for Francophone immigration may be laudable, it still doesn't address the glaring needs of Canada. The first quarter of 2025 is almost over, yet no occupation-based category draw has been made, specifically in Healthcare and Trades. The last time they announced something related was when they added and removed some NOCs in the priority occupations lists.

We'll have to wait and see how 2025 will be for Express Entry hopefuls. Until then, keep pursuing your goal, maintain an Express Entry profile, and be updated.

(*Edit: at the time of writing, the CRS website reverted to the old calculation. It's possible that they are still working on the backend.)
