We always have to make sure of holding valid Travel authorization to return to canada while travelling outside canada as you can encounter situations where CBSA can deny entry in Canada.
Once such case that we very frequently come across is that the Permanent Resident Card expires while they are outside Canada. They are not be allowed to enter canada with expired PR Card if they are returning by plane, train, bus or boat.
In such cases we have need apply Permanent resident travel document (PRTD).
PRTD is a document that is required to enter canada.
a. If you are out of Canada and your PR card expires then you must apply for PRTD (Permanent resident travel document) to enter Canada
b. If you leave Canada without a valid PR card, you must apply for a PRTD to re-enter Canada.
We also have to consider the timelines of recieving the PRTD which varies.
Exception: When you entering Canada by road on a Private Vehicle.
Below are some examples of the documents you may use to establish your identity at the port of entry when entering Canada in a private vehicle:
i. Enhanced driver's license issued by a Canadian province or territory.
