On February 27, 2025, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) introduced a new category under the Express Entry system for education-related occupations. This new category has been identified as a priority for invitations to apply (ITAs) for Permanent Residence (PR) throughout 2025. As a result, foreign-trained schoolteachers, early childhood educators, and other education professionals now have a fresh opportunity to apply for Canadian PR through category-based draws.

If you’re in the education sector, this update could open the door to a new life in Canada!

Which Occupations are Part of the Education Category?

Canada’s National Occupation Classification (NOC) system plays a key role in organizing and describing jobs across industries and sectors. This system includes a Training, Education, Experience, and Responsibilities (TEER) ranking, which evaluates the amount of training, education, and experience needed for a particular role. The TEER scale ranges from 0 (the highest level of requirements) to 5 (the least).

In the new education category, several specific occupations qualify, offering foreign-trained professionals an exciting new pathway to Canadian permanent residency. Here’s a breakdown of the eligible occupations in this category, including their NOC codes and TEER levels.
