All the applicants who apply under the temporary resident programs such as study permit , work permit or visitor visa** or for a permanent residency program such as Express Entry or PNP usually need to go through an Immigration Medical Examination (IME). An authorized panel physician appointed by IRCC performs the medical examination. IME results are used to help identify significant medical conditions and illnesses that may be endemic and pose a risk to public health or safety in Canada.

The IME is valid for only one year after the exam date and hence you do not require to provide any upfront Medical examination if you wish to. You may have to provide another Medical exam if your current one expires before your application is approved.  After submitting your immigration application, you will receive information from IRCC on how to arrange the medical examination.

NOTE: Permanent Residency applicant’s family members (spouses or common-law partners, dependent children, and their dependent children) who are not accompanying the primary applicant to Canada must also provide the Immigration Medical Exam.

Currently there is an exemption to submit IME for all In-Canada applicants on the conditions below:

·        You applied, or are applying, for either permanent residence or temporary residence.

·        You already live in Canada.

·        You completed your previous IME in the last 5 years.

·        Your previous IME indicated a low risk or no risk to public health or public safety.

**Certain TRV applicants outside Canada are exempt from providing Medical Examinations.
