IRCC announced on January 22, 2024, that international graduates of certain college programs (Public-Private college Partnership) in Canada would no longer be eligible for a post-graduation work permit (PGWP). This change will take effect on May 15, 2024, affecting students who start these programs on or after that date for which the earlier date announced was September 1, 2024. IRCC will update the Designated Learning Institutions list - Canada.ca affected by this change on their website.

If you are coming to study in Canada in the next intake or you are planning to study in Canada. Ensure that:

·         The college you are going to study is a DLI.

·         You are enrolled in a PGWP-eligible course.

If you find out after the course is started or when the course is finished. You would not be eligible to apply for PGWP. Then according to IRCC, you will have to go through different route as stated in the news update “The change in post-graduation work permit criteria does not prevent a graduate of one of these programs from applying for a different type of work permit upon graduation. For occupations that face a labour shortage in Canada, a graduate could apply for a work permit supported by an employer’s approved labour market impact assessment, for example.”
