On December 23rd 2024, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has announced that, effective spring 2025, (exact dates yet to be announced) Express Entry candidates will NO longer receive additional Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points for having a job offer.

NOTE: LMIA SUPPORTED JOB OFFERS AND LMIA EXEMPTED JOB OFFERS BOTH will not receive CRS points anymore.

v  LMIA job offers here means a job offer made by a Canadian employer to a foreign worker that has been supported by a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) and is employer specific.

v  Some jobs are LMIA-exempt due to international agreements, special programs, or exemptions under Canada's immigration laws include Jobs covered by the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA), Jobs under intra-company transfer programs, Jobs for spouses of skilled workers or students.

Currently, candidates can receive an extra 50 or 200 CRS points for a valid job offer, which significantly enhances their chances of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence. By removing the incentive to unlawfully purchase or sell LMIAs in order to increase the CRS scores—a practice that has already harmed the immigration sector to a big extent -this policy change will help reduce Fraud.

Factors to Consider:

Implementation Timeline: The removal of job offer points is scheduled for spring 2025. Once in effect, it will apply to all candidates in the Express Entry pool, including those currently working in Canada temporarily. Candidates who have already received an ITA or have an application in progress before the implementation will not be affected.

Reason for Change: AS mentioned above, this measure is part of IRCC's efforts to enhance the integrity of the immigration system by addressing fraudulent activities associated with the buying and selling of LMIAs.

Impact on Candidates: Without the additional points for job offers which a lot of candidates relied on, now the  candidates will need to focus more heavily on the core human capital factors—such as age, education, language proficiency, and work experience—to achieve competitive CRS scores and to improved the likelihood of receiving an ITA under the EE Program.

v  Candidates with job offers who are still in the pool and those candidates who are yet to enter the Express entry pool will be affected with this new policy if they do not receive your ITA by Spring  2025.
