Most visitors to Canada are allowed to stay for up to six months. However, a border services officer determines the exact length of your stay upon your arrival. The officer may stamp your passport with a specific departure date, indicating when you must leave Canada.

If your passport is not stamped, you can stay in Canada for up to six months from the date you entered or until your passport expires—whichever comes first. In some cases, travellers receive a visitor record, a document that specifies their permitted stay and departure date.

Important Note: Different rules apply to Super Visa holders. If you’re visiting Canada under a Super Visa, be sure to check out our dedicated blog post on Super Visa topics for more details.

Note: None of the above statements are legal advice and are not meant to be the same for everyone. You must check the latest policy from the IRCC website before applying. Although everything is clearly stated on the official website, you can seek legal advice if you don't understand something.
