Overview

If you're a full-time employee in Alberta aiming for Canadian permanent residency, the Alberta Opportunity Stream (AOS) is your pathway. Part of the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP), the AOS offers a promising opportunity for professionals seeking to settle permanently in Canada.

Eligibility Requirements for Alberta Opportunity Stream (AOS)

You do not need an Express Entry profile for AOS, but you must meet specific eligibility criteria:

  • Possess a valid job offer from an Alberta employer in an eligible occupation.
  • Demonstrate work experience relevant to the job offer.
  • Meet minimum language and education requirements.
  • Hold legal temporary resident status in Canada during application.
  • Intend to live and work in Alberta permanently.

Job Offer

Your work permit must be valid (excluding implied status or restoration status) under one of these scenarios:

  • Positive Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA).
  • LMIA exemption (including International Experience Canada).
  • Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) holders must meet additional criteria*
  • The occupation must relate to their field of study in Alberta.

Work Experience

You must have full-time employment in an eligible occupation in Alberta, aligned with your previous work experience. For PGWP holders, your occupation must correspond with your field of study in Alberta.

  • 12 months of full-time work experience in your current Alberta job during the last 18 months.
  • Or, 24 months of full-time work experience in your current occupation in Canada or abroad within the last 30 months or both
  • Or, 6 months of full-time work experience relevant to your education in Alberta for PGWP holders during the last 18 months.

Language Proficiency

Language proficiency is crucial, assessing your ability to work and communicate in English or French, Canada's official languages:

  • Provide valid language test results (e.g., IELTS for English, TEF for French).
  • Demonstrate proficiency at Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level 5 for NOC Skill Levels 0, A, or B.
  • CLB 4 for NOC Skill Levels C or D.
  • CLB 7 for NOC Code 3413 (nurses’ aides, orderlies, and patient service associates).

Education

  • Canadian high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) from an IRCC-recognized organization for international education.
  • ECA is not required for Canadian credentials or Alberta-recognized trade certificates.
