British Columbia, known for its strong economy, scenic beauty, and diverse population, is a popular destination for entrepreneurs looking to establish businesses in Canada. The British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) offers several streams under the Entrepreneur Immigration (EI) category designed to attract and retain business-minded individuals who can contribute to the province's economic growth.

 

·      What is BC PNP Entrepreneur Immigration?

 

The BC PNP Entrepreneur Immigration category is designed to allow experienced entrepreneurs and investors to settle in British Columbia by establishing, purchasing, or expanding a business. Successful applicants can obtain permanent residency in Canada through a provincial nomination.

 

·      BC PNP Entrepreneur Immigration Streams:

 

The BC PNP offers three main streams under the Entrepreneur Immigration category:

 

1. Entrepreneur Immigration - Base Category

The Base Category is the most common stream under the BC PNP for entrepreneurs looking to establish a new business or purchase an existing one in British Columbia.

 

Eligibility Requirements:

 

o   Net Worth: Minimum of CAD $600,000.

o   Investment: At least CAD $200,000 in an eligible business.

o   Experience: Minimum of 3 years as a business owner-manager or 4+ years as a senior manager within the last 10 years.

o   Ownership Percentage: Must own at least 33.33% of the business.

o   Job Creation: Create at least one new full-time job for a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.

o   Language Proficiency: Minimum of Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 4 in English or French.

Process:

 

o   Submit an online registration and receive a score.

o   Invitation to apply if the score meets the threshold.

o   Submit a comprehensive business plan.

o   Obtain a work permit to establish the business in BC.

o   Apply for permanent residence through a provincial nomination after meeting performance requirements.

 

 

2. Entrepreneur Immigration - Regional Pilot

The Regional Pilot targets entrepreneurs who wish to start businesses in smaller, less populated communities of British Columbia. This stream aims to stimulate economic growth in rural areas.

 

Eligibility Requirements:

 

o   Net Worth: Minimum of CAD $300,000.

o   Investment: At least CAD $100,000 in an eligible business.

o   Experience: Minimum of 3 years as a business owner-manager or 4+ years as a senior manager within the last 5 years.

o   Ownership Percentage: Must own at least 51% of the business.

o   Job Creation: Create at least one new full-time job.

o   Community Support: Must have support from a participating regional community.

Process:

 

o   Research and visit a participating community.

o   Submit a business proposal and obtain community referral.

o   Register and apply to BC PNP.

o   Receive a work permit to establish the business.

o   Apply for permanent residence after meeting business performance targets.

 

 

3. Strategic Projects Category

 

The Strategic Projects Category is intended for foreign corporations looking to establish a business operation in British Columbia. It allows companies to bring in key foreign employees essential to the business’s success.

 

Eligibility Requirements:

 

o   Investment: Minimum of CAD $500,000.

o   Job Creation: Create at least three full-time jobs for Canadians or permanent residents per foreign key staff member nominated (up to five key staff members can be nominated).

o   Performance Agreement: Must sign a performance agreement with BC PNP.

Process:

 

o   Submit a proposal outlining the business plan and its benefits to BC’s economy.

o   If approved, obtain work permits for key staff members.

o   Apply for permanent residence upon meeting the performance conditions
