If you travel to Canada by plane from a visa-exempt country, you may wonder what to do once your Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) is approved.

Once your eTA is approved, you’ll receive a confirmation email with your eTA number. It’s important to save this number for future reference, such as checking the status of your eTA or contacting Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for inquiries.

Your eTA is electronically linked to the passport you used for the application, so printing your email confirmation or any additional documents is unnecessary. However, once you receive your approval email, verify that the passport number in the email matches the one on your passport. If there is a mistake, you’ll need to reapply using the correct passport number.

Before your flight, ensure that all your information is accurate. At the airport, you must present the same passport used in your eTA application. The airline staff will scan it to confirm you have a valid eTA. Without it, you won’t be allowed to board.

In some cases, additional documents may be required, such as if you are travelling with a minor (child under the age of 18) or you received a letter of invitation from a person or a company inviting you to Canada.

Keep in mind that an approved eTA and travel document do not guarantee entry into Canada.
