As of Nov 06, 2024, a multi-entry visa issued to maximum validity is no longer considered to be standard. The officers will decide whether to issue a multi-entry or single-entry visa based on their judgement, including deciding the validity period.

Here are some important tips for you to keep in mind:

-       The multiple-entry visa (maximum last for 10 years) expires when your passport or biometric information expires, whichever comes first.

-       If your visa is issued on an old passport, remember to bring both passports when showing them to the airline, border service, or other relevant departments.

Here are the main factors the immigration officials may consider when they decide whether to issue a multi-entry visa, factors are affected based on various criteria:

Visit Purpose

-        Are you coming for a special occasion, like a business conference or family visit, or do you expect to travel to Canada frequently in the near future?

-        Are you a child going on a trip for a program or travelling for urgent family reasons?

Financial Factor

-        Do you have a reliable source of income or funds to cover your travel expenses? If a family member or friend in Canada is paying for your visit, they will need to show proof of their relationship to you as well as their financial ability to support you.

Health Factor

Have you reported any health issues that could worsen during your stay? If you are coming for medical purposes, you may need to provide proof of health insurance.

Additional Considerations

-        Whether you have strong ties to your home country, such as family obligations, or job ties.

-        Good travel history can influence your application, including your previous trips to Canada.

-        If you have ever been refused a visa previously, this may also be taken into account during the interview.

How is the Validity Period Determined?

The immigration officials might decide to issue the visa for a shorter period than the maximum period. Considerations may include:

Purpose of Visit: Shorter validity may issued for a short visit, i.e., a short business trip.

Personal Situation: Your residency status and the strength of your connections to both your home country and Canada may be evaluated.

Country Conditions: Economic or political issues in your home country might also affect your visa validity.
