Canada’s Start-up Visa Program targets immigrant entrepreneurs with the skills and potential to build businesses in Canada (outside Quebec) that

o   are innovative

o   can create jobs for Canadians

o   can compete on a global scale

To apply for the Start-up Visa Program, you must pitch your qualifying start-up to a designated organization and get their support, meet the language requirements and must bring enough money to settle. With the support of a designated organization, immigrant entrepreneurs can apply for permanent residence in Canada and launch their start-up here. Designated organizations include venture capital funds, angel investor groups and business incubators that have been approved to support these start-ups.

You can apply for the Start-up Visa Program as an individual or as part of a group of up to 5 owners. Either way, you need to meet certain requirements:

·      have a qualifying business

·      get a letter of support from a designated organization

·      meet the language requirements

·      bring enough money to settle

·      Permanent Residency: Successful applicants of the Startup Visa program are granted Canadian permanent residency, offering a pathway to citizenship.

·      Investment and Support from Designated Entities: Entrepreneurs must secure backing from a designated Canadian entity, such as a venture capital fund, angel investor group, or business incubator, to invest in or support their startup.

·      Ownership and Business Requirements: Applicants must hold at least 10% of the voting rights in their business and, together with the designated Canadian organization, control more than 50% of the total voting rights.

·      Language and Financial Criteria: Applicants need to demonstrate language proficiency in English or French at a minimum CLB 5 level and show sufficient financial means to support themselves and their dependents upon arrival in Canada.

 

Eligibility Requirements:

·      Establish a qualifying business where each applicant owns at least 10% of the voting rights.

·      Secure a letter of support from a designated organization.

·      The applicant and the designated organization must collectively hold more than 50% of the total voting rights.

·      Achieve a minimum Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level of 5.

·      Meet the minimum required settlement funds criteria.

·      Permanent Residency: Entrepreneurs and their families can obtain permanent residency in Canada.

·      Priority Processing: The Startup Visa program offers priority processing, allowing businesses to choose any location in Canada (excluding Quebec) as their intended base.

·      Multiple Shareholders: Up to five co-founders can apply as shareholders, provided each hold at least 10% of the voting rights in the company's outstanding shares.
