Can Super Visa be applied from inside Canada and what are the New Medical Insurance requirements :

No, a Super Visa cannot be applied from within Canada. The application must be submitted from outside Canada. However, after the application is submitted the applicant can travel to Canada on a Visitor Visa or an e-Visa.

Some points to note here:

The application decision is solely based on the documents the candidate submitted at the time of the Super Visa application. The Candidate’s travelling to Canada or staying in Canada will not lead to refusal.

Once the visa is approved the super visa stamping must happen outside Canada or from the country the application had been submitted. The client will have to leave Canada to submit the passport from stamping of a super visa.

Based on the documents submitted, proof of funds and the candidates eligibility for super visa the CBSA Border officer will assess the candidate and issue a super visa stay period valid for up to 5 years( it may not be 5 years for every candidate).

Eligibility & Requirements when applying for  a Super Visa:

• Must be a parent or grandparent of a Canadian citizen or permanent resident who is 18 years old or above and is residing in Canada.
• Need a letter of invitation and a letter of financial support from their child or grandchild who is the host. The inviter or the host must meet the LICO requirement for the family he/she is sponsoring and of all his dependents .

• Must have medical insurance conditions:

Ø  Insurance must be purchased for a minimum 1 year for a value of upto $100,000 CAD.

Ø  The Insurance must be purchased from a Canadian Insurance company or an OSFI (Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions) regulated insurance provider and the insurance policy must be made during the course of its business in Canada.

• The applicants must also Undergo medical exams if required and meet the other eligibility requirements such as home ties, purpose of visit, family ties etc.
