Yes, the PR status can be revoked under various circumstances, out of which not completing the residency requirements (staying in Canada for 730 days in the past 5 years), is included.
There are certain exemptions to the physical residency requirements which is that Time spent travelling with a Canadian spouse, on a business trip for a Canadian business, or working for a federal or provincial government office abroad can be included in the calculation, which conritbutes to the days as if your were inside Canada.
You can lose your PR status, if:
- you did not meet the residency requirements
- you became a Canadian Citizen which automatically would mean that now you are a Canadian citizen and no longer a PR
- you voluntarily renounce your PR status
- you become criminally inadmissible to Canada (If you commit a serious offence as a PR, you may have to leave Canada permanently and your PR status will be revoked)
One could be found criminally inadmissible for a number of reasons, such as:
- security reasons such as espionage etc.
- human or international rights violations such as involvement in war crimes etc.
- committing a crime while under the influence of alcohol or drugs
- OR misrepresentation (if you acquired PR by misrepresenting facts)
- It is important to note that revocation of a PR status is different form Refusal of a PR application.
