Before I answer yes or no, let me share some evidence.

For Canadian Experience Class (CEC), it’s a direct NO.

Interestingly enough, most of the potential applicants, even some beginner practitioners think as they (IRCC) have mentioned about CEC precisely, therefore, self-employment is ok for other federal skilled programs to claim points. Well, before I break your heart, let me bring some more evidence so that you come out of your wrong assumption and know the facts.

The above requirements are for both Federal skilled workers and Canadian experience class together. The simple and very straight forward question is, how can someone declare himself / herself as an employer while the potential applicant owns the business / incorporation himself / herself? I have seen some applicants trying to be smart and they incorporate the business under their spouse’s / partner’s name (where applicable) and think that’s ok. Haha. I really feel pity and laugh at them. Because, either they are too fool, or they think IRCC officials are too fool to get caught.

Last but not least, if you still have some more confusion, I would highly recommend to check section 82(1) of Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations.

$M question to you: Registering an incorporation cost approx. $300-$500 (varies from province to province and whether you do only federal or federal + extra provincial). If things were so easy, then don’t you think people would be in the Express Entry pool so easily? And if that’s the case then CRS cut off score always would be somewhere from 550-600 or even more, so, what’s the point?
