ALBERTA

Alberta, situated in Western Canada, is one of its 13 provinces and territories. It's the 4th largest and 4th most populous province of Canada. Comprising of great plains and Rocky Mountains this spectacular province borders the USA in the south. Its capital is Edmonton, and the largest city is Calgary.

This  scenic province is a popular destination not only for international immigration but also for inter-provincial migration due to its breathtaking natural beauty and vibrant economy.

To meet its immigration needs, Alberta has its own economic immigration program called the Alberta Advantage Immigration (AAIP) Program. To move to Alberta through AAIP, it is important to understand AAIP, its different immigration streams and how they function.

WHAT IS THE ALBERTA ADVANTAGE IMMIGRATION PROGRAM?

Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) formerly called the Alberta Immigration Nominee Program (AINP) is one of Canada’s Provincial Nomination Programs (PNPs). Under this economic immigration program, an applicant can be nominated for permanent residency along with their family if they have the right skill set and job experience or is planning to buy or start a business in Alberta. To receive a nomination, applicants must submit an Expression of Interest (EOI).

Currently, there are 8 streams under AAIP. Out of these 8 streams, 4 streams are for workers and 4 are for entrepreneurs.

STREAMS FOR WORKERS

  1. Tourism and Hospitality: candidates who live in Alberta and work with Alberta tourism and hospitality sector employers, and have a job offer from their employer.
  2. Alberta Opportunity Stream: candidates who live and work in Alberta and have a job offer from an Alberta employer.
  3. Alberta Express Entry Stream: candidates who have an Express Entry profile and meet Alberta’s minimum requirements and occupational priorities. Healthcare, technology workers, and police occupations have dedicated pathways under this stream.
  4. Rural Renewal Stream: candidates with a job offer and endorsement letter from a designated community. Refugees who qualify under the Economic Mobility Pathways Pilot (EMPP) with the support of a non-governmental referral partner can also be endorsed by the designated communities.

STREAMS FOR ENTREPRENEURS

  1. Rural Entrepreneur Stream: candidates interested in starting or buying an existing business in a rural Alberta community.
  2. Graduate Entrepreneur Stream: international graduates of approved Alberta post-secondary institutions, interested in starting or buying a business.
  3. Farm Stream: farmers with experience, interested in starting or buying a farm in Alberta.
  4. Foreign Graduate Stream: foreign graduates with a degree from a post-secondary institution outside of Canada, interested in launching a start-up enterprise and innovative business can work with a designated agency to submit an EOI.
