The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) introduced the Law Enforcement Pathway in June 2024 as part of Alberta’s Express Entry Stream. The pathway aims to attract experienced and skilled law enforcement professionals from abroad to immigrate to Alberta, helping Alberta police services address crime and meet recruitment needs.
In collaboration with the Alberta Association of Chiefs of Police (AACP), the AAIP reviews information on international recruits identified by AACP member organizations. This review determines whether the candidates meet the necessary requirements to receive an invitation to apply. If eligible, these candidates may receive an invitation to apply for permanent residency through the AAIP.
Candidates who receive an invitation to apply under the Law Enforcement Pathway are required to:
-
At the time of application submission and assessment, your primary occupation in your Express Entry profile must match your current job or job offer in Alberta.
-
An AACP member organization must have officially identified you to the AAIP as an internationally recruited police officer.
-
You must hold a valid and verifiable job offer from an Alberta employer in Alberta police services (linked to an AACP member organization).
Eligible occupations (codes and titles) under the National Occupational Classification (NOC) include:
- 40040 – Commissioned (management) police officers and related occupations in public protection services
- 41310 – Police investigators and other investigative occupations
- 42100 – Police officers (except commissioned)
NOC codes cover various occupational titles. The AAIP will seek additional information from prospective applicants and the AACP regarding the occupation identified in the job offer to ensure eligibility under this pathway.
